NEW ACADEMY SPACE IS OPEN!
After a lot of planning and hard work the new
academy facility is open. With over double the mat
space of the old site. The new space includes bigger
changing rooms, 2 bathrooms, a separate MMA area
including a half cage (UFC style) and various heavy
bags for training striking.

On April 9th 2008 Julio Paulino (Gracie Barra
Middleweight), Brian Ryan (Gracie Barra
Heavyweight Champ), Jesus Rivera (Gracie Barra

Gracie Barra Students return from
the '08 Pan Ams (pictures!)
Gracie Barra fighters Steve Young (Gold Medal
winner, Brown Belt), Gary Monroe (Brown belt), Paul
Stalker (White Belt) and Jayson Whiteside (White
Belt) traveled to So. Cal to compete in one of the
premier Jiu-Jitsu tournaments on the planet , the
Pan American JIu-JItsu Championships.
Team Gracie Barra Alaska fought well and Steve
Young won Gold In his brownbelt division.
Congratulations to all of our guys who trained hard
and stepped on the mat in such a big tournament it
takes a lot of courage to compete in a tournament
like the Pan Ams.

GRANDOPENING A GREAT SUCCESS!
June 14th the turn out for Gracie Barra Alaska's
new academy grandopening was amazing many
students new and old showed up to support the
club and enjoy the festivities.
Our esteemed black belt guests included
Professors Nelson Monterio, Rafael "Gordinho"
Lima and Roy Dean.
The 3 blackbelts put on a wonderful seminar and
rolled with the entire class.
After the seminar Professor Stickel thanked all of
his students, his esteemed guests and awarded
Justin Young his well deserved blue belt. Justin
is the first GBAK student to transition from the
kids to adult class marking a milestone within
Gracie Barra Alaska.
